SINIGANG

“Do you value your family? Did you ever lie to them? How does it feel seeing them suffer?”

SINIGANG is one of those stories that brought bigger impact on me as a 21st Century learner, because it implies real life situation and most of us can truly relate to this.

The first moral lesson that I obtained in the story is how HONESTY affects one family. Honesty is one of the greatest foundation in the family. Some people defined honesty as saying the truth. Yet, I do have my own definition to that word, and that is being true to yourself and unto your family. Apparently, if this value will not obtain inside the family, it will really worsen the misunderstanding as a whole.

Second, how SELFLESSNESS sway us. Actually it happens because of our unconditional love to someone. This value was seen in Liza’s mother who still love her husband despite of what he did in his family. Yes, it sound pathetic and lame but that was the reality in life.

Third, being CONTENTED. After reading Singang, I learned even more about the essence of contentment. In life we always had our desired goals and that is not eventually wrong. What’s wrong is the ways of how we achieve those. Hurting someone and making them suffer is an immoral sin. So that, once we already have that dream of us, we should stop wanting for more particularly cheating in a relationship.

Fourth, is the greatest power of FORGIVING. This moral was seen when Liza forgive her father. We people often told a person to forgive who wronged them. We always said, “Forgive him because you love him”, “Forgive him just because you shared a lot of memories in the past” etc, but it always ends with the words “It is easily been said than done”. It is mere normal if we hesitate to do forgiving, especially for those people who ruined our trust. Because forgiving means letting go of those hatred, bitterness, feeling and thought of revenge and starting a new chapter of life.

Lastly, the importance of TIME. This appears entirely in the story, from the moment Liza’s father cheats and end up having an affair up to the death of Lem. Concluding, Don’t ever do anything wrong in the past that will definitely makes you regret in the future. So, what we need to do is cherish and create a happy memories in present, because time is the only valuable treasure that we can keep with us and makes us want to go back in the most precious experience that we have in life.
